Waste Water
STAMULLEN WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT
The funding for this plant was provided by a consortium of developers led by Shenick Construction. The original plant and site was in the ownership of the Local Authority, Meath County Council. A Public Private Partnership was put in place between the parties. In order to allow the extension of the plant, without impacting upon the quality of the Delvin River receiving waters, it was necessary to provide a high level of treatment to a 10 mg/l BOD5:10 mg/l S.S. standard with tertiary treatment sand filtration. The new plant allowed for the construction of 550 houses locally. Mechanical and electrical works were by Bowen Water Technology and specialist process advice was by Aquarius Engineering. O’Connor Sutton Cronin acted as Project Managers and Project Consulting Engineers. One of the main difficulties with the project was working on a live site in the ownership of the Local Authority. It was necessary to put in place strict agreements in relation to indemnity in the event of accidental overflow to the river during the construction process. Working with a live plant also meant that the logistics of the switch over between different phases of the project were critical and had to be meticulously planned.
