FLOOD STUDIES
OCSC recently finalised work on the River Dargle Flood Study and successfully negotiated the scheme through an oral hearing at An Bord Pleanála.
The scheme included modelling a 3.9 kilometre reach of the river as well as assessing the 133 square kilometre catchment. A computer model was developed using HEC-RAS (Hydraulic Engineering Centre - River Analysis System) to assess the impact of a range of engineering flood protection measures.
These measures were then linked together to provide the proposed flood defence scheme. The scheme comprises widening and regrading of the river together with the construction of engineered embankments and retaining walls.
