Water and Wastewater Services

The water and wastewater section of O’Connor Sutton Cronin comprises a team of dedicated professionals experienced in all aspects of water and wastewater disciplines.

We have particular expertise in the following areas:

  • Water Supply
  • Wastewater Treatment Projects
  • Site Suitability Assessment for On-site Wastewater Treatment Systems
  • Surface Water Drainage Schemes
  • Flood Studies / Flood Impact Assessments.

Water Supply

O’Connor Sutton Cronin has been involved in numerous potable water supply projects involving assessing the capability of the underlying aquifer to provide an adequate supply; source protection delineation; water treatment; reservoir design; pipeline design and potable water pumping stations. We have developed site-specific water cycle management plans to implement source protection measures and water conservation techniques such as rainwater harvesting and the use of recycled sewage as “grey water”.

Wastewater Treatment

O’Connor Sutton Cronin has designed and delivered numerous foul drainage infrastructure schemes involving piped networks, pumping stations and on-site treatment and disposal. This included the assessment of sites to ensure their suitability regarding the discharge of treated wastewater to on-site groundwater or to a local surface water course and the obtaining of the associated discharge licences.

Site Suitability Assessment for On-site Wastewater Treatment Systems

When it is proposed to discharge treated wastewater to groundwater it is essential that a Site Suitability Assessment is undertaken to ensure that the in-situ soils will allow the treated wastewater to percolate down to the water table. The percolation of the treated wastewater through the soil will also allow for the wastewater to be further treated thus preventing the contamination of the groundwater. The Site Suitability Assessments are undertaken in accordance with current EPA guidelines.

Surface Water Drainage Schemes

O’Connor Sutton Cronin has managed surface water drainage schemes ranging from traditional pipe networks with underground attenuation for high density urban situations to full sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) solutions utilising source controls, infiltration devices, surface ponds and integrated wetlands.

Flood Studies / Flood Impact Assessments

O’Connor Sutton Cronin have developed core competencies in the delivery of flood studies and flood impact assessments and can offer services including hydrological assessments; hydrometry facilities; river channel modelling and the design of flood relief and protection schemes.
