Mater & Children's Hospital
O’Connor Sutton Cronin Consulting Engineers are part of the
winning Integrated Design Team (IDT) led by O’Connell
Mahon Architects + NBBJ Architects for the new Children’s
Hospital of Ireland.
This Children’s Hospital will be a world class facility that will
deliver excellence in clinical services, teaching and research in
an environment that is fully supportive of children and their
families. The new hospital is part of a new Health Services
Executive (HSE) initiative for the cohesive delivery of specialist
healthcare for children in Ireland, providing primary/secondary
care for the Greater Dublin Area and Tertiary care on a national
basis.
The Children’s Hospital will be developed on the basis of a single
hospital, two site arrangement primarily located in the highly
urban city centre site of the existing Mater Hospital with
Ambulatory and Urgent Care Centre (A/UCC) located at Tallaght
Hospital on the outskirts of the city.
The brief for the Mater site comprises c. 100,000 m2 floor area
including 399 inpatient beds, 53 daycare beds, 10 Operating
Theatres, A&E, Clinical Support Services, Allied Health Services,
Diagnostics and many additional support areas. An underground
carpark accessed off Eccles Street will be designed to
accommodate up to 800 spaces. The brief for the A/UCC at
Tallaght comprises c. 10,000m2 floor area including 28 Daycare
Beds, 3 No. Day Theatres, Urgent Care Centre, OPD,
Diagnostics, Therapies and additional support areas.
The brief also requires that the IDT deliver the project using
Building Information Modelling (BIM) systems.
O’Connor Sutton Cronin are currently delivering a number of
projects using Revit and readily recognise the benefits of software
integration of Architecture and M&E with Structure.
The programme for completion is to have the A/UCC at Tallaght
open in 2013 with the main hospital at the Mater site open in
2014.
