mechanical & electrical

The M&E section with in OCSC is headed up by Francis McNulty and Nick Penston. As a practice quality, excellence in design and cost efficiency is at the forefront of the groups objectives.

The prime focus of the M&E section is to produce fully engineered, quality designs that will bring cost security to projects. Francis and Nick also believe that, based on the teams experience they can offer best value for money in their designs and bring value to the construction process.

OCSC M&E offer the following services

  • All aspects of Mechanical services engineering
  • Building Management System design
  • All aspects of Electrical services engineering
  • Lighting and emergency lighting systems
  • Security & CCTV systems
  • ICT and telecommunications systems
  • Sustainable design and advice on energy issues. Renewable and Passive technologies including Biomas and CHP
  • Thermal and Computerised Fluid Dynamic (CFD) modelling
  • Building Energy ratings (BER) on both domestic and commercial properties
  • Building Energy Certificates for Public Buildings
  • Planning submission Part L compliance and energy reports

There are over 30 engineers within the group with representation in London, Warsaw, Abu Dhabi and the main group of engineers in Dublin.

  • The group works to produce designs that
  • Are economical to install and do not include unnecessary margins.
  • Are better than current best international practices
  • Are resilient, user friendly and easy to operate.
  • Exceed our client’s objectives and requirements.
  • Bring real added value to the project.
  • Are fully designed and coordinated in house.

The group continuously works to help solve problems with the traditional OCSC “can-do” attitude.

We work on a whole range of projects including healthcare, education, Retail, hotels, residential, student accommodation, residential care, public entertainment, Utility projects, civil projects and many more.

We also have a strong sustainability section within the group. We continuously support our engineers to develop their expertise in this field of engineering. We now have fully qualified and registered assessors in the following fields.

BREEAM (British research environmental engineering assessment methodology)

SEI – Building Energy Rating Assessor (BER – domestic and commercial)

SEI - Display Energy Certificate Assessor (DEC - commercial)

Code for Sustainable Homes

CIBSE – Low Carbon Consultant

CIBSE – Low Carbon Energy Assessor (Level 3, 4 & 5)

With these skilled engineers we can assist in developing the most economical designs that comply with the reduced energy, sustainable and renewable requirements of current day projects.

We have software design capabilities which allow us to complete daylight and shadow analysis, and lighting designs showing the full implications of lamp and fitting selection. We also complete full dynamic modelling on all projects which ensure that all designs are completed at the optimum level.

A key issue in any business is their energy cost. We are currently working with a number of clients to assist in the reduction of energy costs at their premises. This is being completed by a detailed examination of the way they are operating their M&E systems as well as suggestions for incorporating low energy and renewable technologies. The service we are offering is.

  • Complete Energy Studies, including site surveys, desk top analysis, recommendations with energy, CO2, reductions, capital costs and payback periods.
  • manage the implementation of our reports recommendations,
  • review and improvements to operational set ups
  • assistance in asset management
  • review of maintenance contracts.

OCSC will always look to add value and be a benefit to the process rather than a hindrance.
