Hillsborough Castle Opening Day

David Fletcher & Thomas Johnston of O’Connor Sutton Cronin were delighted to attend the official reopening of Hillsborough Castle and Gardens by The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall. OCSC were appointed as civil and structural engineers for the £20m redevelopment of the Hillsborough Castle Estate. Hillsborough Castle lies on a 100-acre Co Down estate made up of historic buildings, gardens and parklands. The redevelopment was designed to make the most of the site’s unique heritage and increase accessibility. Conservation design was used throughout the project to enhance historic features such as the estates buildings, walled gardens and historic walkways. An existing stream flowing through the estate was also realigned to recreate a historic water garden complete with raised boardwalks, weirs and bridges. OCSC were proud to complete the project with other design team members Consarc, Paul Hogarths, TB&A and F3.
