This building forms the headquarters for the Dunnes Stores chain and is a 4 storey building over double basement.
The brief for the design and construction of the building included an early completion date and strict budget guidelines while working around a listed building.
O’Connor Sutton Cronin, in conjunction with the Architect and Services Engineer, prioritized the optimization of the floor space on site which was confined by high rock levels in the ground and height restrictions above ground. To optimize the floor space an 8m x 9m grid system and floor slab depth of 350mm was decided on. The construction system proposed by O’Connor Sutton Cronin utilised 100mm deep precast wide slabs with a 100mm concrete topping spanning between reinforced concrete wide beams. This system is similar to a flat slab, however it greatly reduces the amount of formwork and temporary propping required during construction.
On this project, the system reduced the time spent by the contractor in pouring equivalent floor areas, thus enabling a tighter programme. The frame utilises RC beams and columns with PC floors. The building is enhanced by feature decorative Lasticover PC glass.
