The library at Dublin City University comprises 4 floors of accommodation with a sub-basement ground, first and second floors.
The general structural frame is an in-situ reinforced concrete frame comprising flat slab construction with concrete shear walls for stability at localised positions within the building.
The cladding and roof structures required intricate design of structural steelwork sections to incorporate into the cladding system and to achieve the barrel vault and cartwheel roof lights. Very intricate detailing and detailed co-ordination with cladding and other follow-on components was required to achieve the tight tolerances for the secondary structural elements.
Detailed 3-dimensional structural modelling was carried out on our in-house software systems to achieve the refinement of the structural design required.
