OCSC was appointed in 2003 by Zapi Developments to undertake the design of 2.2 kilometres of dual carriageway linking the R761 (Kilcoole Road) and R762 (Mill Road) regional roads in Greystones County Wicklow. The scheme further incorporated 1.2 kilometres of Spine Road along with 6 no. large diameter (70m – 80m) at grade roundabouts along with extensive foul, storm, potable water and telecommunications services. The scheme further included a bridge over the Three Trouts River. The project forms part of a link to the M11 motorway.
The roads and services were necessary to accommodate the development of 80 hectares of residential and industrial zoned lands at Charlesland, Greystones. The site lies immediately east of the R761 regional road and south of the R762. It slopes steeply from west to east with falls in excess of 15% in places. The overall development comprises 3,000 residential units, 50,000 m2 office, 20,000 m2 retail, 25,000 m2 retail warehouse and ancillary schools, police stations.
OCSC provided all civil, structural, environmental and transportation engineering services for the development from preplanning meetings with the planning authority through to detailed design, contract documentation and suite supervision.
In parallel with the design and supervision of the roads contract OCSC developed a number of Traffic Impact Assessments reports for the wider scheme along with Mobility Management Plans for the employment generating sections of the development.
