OCSC were appointed by Wicklow County Council to undertake the design of a structural overlay to the M11 (Route E1) National Primary Route. The particular section of the route is some 5 kilometres in length immediately south of the Kilpedder junction and is dual carriageway cross section throughout with a number of interchanges, under and overbridges.
The design was carried out by OCSC’s alignment design engineers using Bentley’s MXRenew structural overlay software. The required depth of overlay required for structural performance was calculated by reference to a Falling Weight Deflectometer test which was carried out along the route.
Detailed consideration was given in the alignment design to tie ins at interchange on and off ramps, to maintaining minimum headroom at overbridges and to minimising additional dead loadings at underbridges. Special consideration was also given to maintaining minimum drainage falls along the entire length of the route.
OCSC provided alignment design, contract documentation and contract administration services for the project.
