OCSC were appointed by Kildare County Council to undertake the detailed design, contract administration and site supervision of a number of sections of the R407 Kilcock – Naas Road. The various sections included the R407 at Portgloriam, Mainham and Castlesize along with two urban roundabouts in the town of Clane which formed part of the Clane Relief Road. The project was to realign and reconstruct this regionally important route through the county.
The total length of the various road sections is approximately 7.5 kilometres and the route varies in environment from rural to outer urban. Some minor bridge widening and rehabilitation works were included in the project. OCSC carried out preliminary and detailed alignment design along with CPO land acquisition drawings for the project. In addition to normal road design services OCSC also undertook a preliminary Flood Study for the lands adjoining the Portgloriam section of the route which is subject to frequent flooding.
OCSC provided all civil, structural, environmental and transportation engineering services for the project along with detailed negotiations with local landowners and with the Elected Members of Kildare County Council during the course of the project.
A number of sections of the scheme have now be built out through direct labour works by Kildare County Council Roads Department.
