O’Connor Sutton Cronin was appointed as Civil and Structural Engineers for the refurbishment of the existing facilities following the successful completion of a new research and development laboratory for the pharmaceuticals firm Bioniche Pharma. The refurbishment works was procured using a Design and Build procedure. Bioniche is a specialty pharmaceutical company involved in the development, manufacturing and marketing of sterile injectable products.
The Bioniche facility is U.S FDA and Irish Medicines Board (IMB) approved and is ISO EN 13485 accredited by Amtac (Manufacture and Sale of Medicines devices).
The refurbishment project initially comprised the surveying and reporting on the existing 1970’s buildings which included the external and internal facilities and associated services. O’Connor Sutton Cronin carried out the refurbishment of the external cladding upgrade with Deign Build partners Purcell Construction Ltd and architects Fewer Harrington.
The construction comprised of over cladding the existing brick and rendered facades with modern lightweight architectural cladding panels. The existing parapets were significantly raised in height. OCSC designed a lightweight internal bracing system overhead the internal office space to resist the increased parapet details.
O’Connor Sutton Cronin expect to carry out significant internal upgrade works in the near future. The project was delivered on programme and below the projected budget cost
