OCSC were appointed by David Daly Management to provide Civil and Structural design services for the landmark Airside retail park located off the N1 at Swords. The development comprises 50,000m2 of retail space and approximately 800 carparking spaces.
Single storey, multi-span, steel portal frames were chosen as the structural form, offering maximum flexibility, economic viability and a fast-track approach to tight programme constraints. Elevational treatment included architectural panelling, with planar glazing at unit entrances. High level entrances and 11m high rotundas dominate the front elevation. Phase 2 of the development also included the construction of units on approximately 6.5m of engineering fill.
OCSC provided design solutions acceptable to the Local Authority for foul drainage disposal for Airside Retail Park, on this un-serviced landbank which included the provision of a temporary waste water treatment plant in addition to a full foul sewerage network installed for future connection to a proposed Local Authority sewerage system. Surface water is collected in attenuation ponds and discharges at allowable flow rates to existing water courses.
The road network was designed to provide access to the retail park at 2 No. locations on the N1, while also extending to provide a vital link between the N1 at Swords and the M1 at Drynam.
OCSC provided all civil and structural engineering services for the development from preplanning meetings through to detailed design, contract documentation and construction monitoring.
