OCSC were appointed by Parkway Partnership provide Structural and Civil design on this 25,000m2 shopping centre on the outskirts of Balbriggan. Tesco were the anchor tenant of the first phase of the development and occupy 10,000m2 in a Tesco Extra type format specifically tailored over 2 floor levels to tie into the overall shopping centre. The development also included basement and multi-storey carparking to provide 1000 spaces, in addition to service yards, Dot Com area and Standalone McDonald’s restaurant. In addition to future proofing for further phases.
The site slopes over 8m from north to south and required extensive Civil works in terms of road widening, roundabouts both within the development and on the surrounding public roads. In-situ concrete trafficable roads were designed over basement carparking where required.
The super structure was typically on a 12x14m grid consisting of concreted permanent metal deck formwork and composite steel beams. Detailed site investigation in conjunction with a stepped ground/basement allowed the foundations to be typically pad foundations. Detailed hydraulic analysis was undertaken to minimise the extent and requirement for water tight basement construction.
OCSC provided all civil, structural engineering services for the development from preplanning meetings through to detailed design, tender documentation and construction monitoring.
