BRE Visitor Center (Glasgow)

O’Connor Sutton Cronin provided the structural design for the new visitors centre as part of the BRE Innovation Park on the site of the former steel works in Ravenscraig, Lanarkshire.

The BRE Visitor Centre is a low cost demonstration of how homegrown timber can be used in zero carbon light industrial / commercial applications.  The building is an innovative off site manufactured system, using Scottish timber and featuring the first commercial use of Scottish grown cross laminated timber walls.  It achieved BREEAM ‘outstanding’ with one of the best ratings in the UK.

The centre also won the Sustainability award by the Glasgow Institute of Architects in November 2012.
