Mercantile Quarter, Poole
The Mercantile Quarter Development in Poole is situated along the banks of the Back Water Channel in the Poole Estuary. O'Connor Sutton Cronin have been engaged by Neptune Consulting Ltd to provide Civil and Structural Engineering services for the project which is currently at pre-planning stage. The design intent is to construct a Mixed Use Development on the 4.2 Acre site. Buildings will range from 8 to 12 storeys and include 575 Residential units and 41,500 m² of Commercial space.
A number of structural options are being considered which include, RC frame with flat slabs, crosswall construction with precast concrete slabs and timber frame.
The site has a history of contaminative uses and is prone to flooding. O'Connor Sutton Cronin have been in discussions with the EA and DEFRA to agree Finished Floor Levels and Flood Protection Measures. It was agreed to provide a Carpark at Ground Level which encompasses the site. This raises the Commercial/Residential Units above the flood plain and reduces the cost of excavation/ disposal of contaminated material from the site.
