  • This project involves the construction of a new Bio-Sciences Medical School Facility located in the heart of the University
campus comprising large lecture theatres, laboratories, a Mortuary, and specialist BioScience Facilities.
  • The Bio-Sciences Medical School Facility is located at the heart of the NUIG Campus.
  • The campus is home to 18,000 students and 2,400 staff members.
  • The campus has been evolving since its inception in 1845 and OCSC is proud of its contribution to this beautiful 105-acre campus consisting of over 90 buildings on the banks of the River Corrib. The new facility comprises large lecture theatres, laboratories, a mortuary, and specialist Bio-Science facilities.
  • The removal of the bedrock in particular was closely monitored to minimise noise pollution in this live campus environment.
  • Specialist noise Consultants modeled the effects of noise pollution from various pieces of plant and equipment including rock-breaking machinery at the site. This allowed mitigating control measures to be implemented in the Works Requirements.
  • The building incorporates a new water-side colonnade pedestrian link between the Arts Science Blocks and the Student Hub. This is a new level paved pedestrian access-only street. The building’s entrance on the southern façade comprises a long gentle sloping ramp access which has been built into the landscaped areas to the front of the building. The HBB achieved a DAC certificate.
