O’Connor Sutton Cronin & Associates Ltd was engaged by Cork City Council to bring the Marina Park Project from the preliminary design stage through detailed design, tender, construction, and handover stages. As part of our delivery OCSC delivered the project through the Section 38 process including all required Environmental Screening, Assessments, and Surveys. OCSC managed a multi-disciplinary team to successfully deliver the scheme to Cork City Council in July 2021.

• Marina Park is a public open space in the South Docklands Cork and is seen as a key economic driver and catalyst towards the regeneration of the South Docklands area. This project is the first phase to be constructed and represents approx. 6ha of the total 32ha park site. The nature of the existing brownfield site environment had resulted in contamination of the existing soil structure requiring the management of some 15,000 cubic meters of contaminated material.
• The project contains some unique features representing the ingenuity of the design and the skill in construction. Most notable is the use of polished concrete as a surface finish to some 6,200sq.m pedestrianized public realm in addition to the riverfront walkways, provision of Bridge and Culvert Structures including a Timber Boardwalk, and seating areas, The central hall structure is a replica of the showground’s central hall previously occupying the site.
• The new structure was carefully constructed on the same footprint, with careful consideration to the old details, and provides a historic and cultural connection to the site history.
• The structure will be the central hub of the park, providing space for gathering, play, and leisure.
